Christmas chats

I like talking about Christmas, so Patrice's questions appealed today! Also I'm sitting here listening to Sixpence None the Richer's Christmas album, and laughing my head off at Christmas Island. I want to see Santa sail up in a canoe.

What's your favorite day of the week? Why?

I really do like both days of the weekend. That'll probably change once my hubby is working, and then I'll prefer whatever days he has off. But for now, Saturday and Sunday are my Get Out Of The House days. I go to the library, and sometimes church, if I'm feeling brave about the germs. So far, out of all the times we've gone, there's been one visit that we didn't bring home some horrible bug. I've sworn church off until after the holidays. Isn't that pagan of me?

What's your favorite Christmas movie?

Does Home Alone count as a Christmas movie? There's also Its A Wonderful Life, which I haven't seen in years but can probably quote it word for word. Of course, watching it re-enacted in 30 seconds by bunnies scratches the itch pretty well, too.

Is there a Christmas Carol that's special to you?

Well, I like O Come Emmanuel, but really only the haunting version by Eden's Bridge. There's just something about Celtic music ...

Is there an art or craft that you'd love to be able to do?

I keep thinking about getting some clay and letting the kids make Christmas ornaments. Then I remember how messy acrylic paints are, and I shake myself and think, "Maybe next year."

Do you have a live Christmas tree or an artificial one?

Fake one! We have a nice little 3-footer that lives in a box the rest of the year, but it's all we have room for. The kids dearly love it, and plugging it in every morning has become a ritual.

I love that picture. Gosh C. went straight into toddler. She isn't even crawling that much. She looks just like the big kids.
I am going to go check out that album.
I am glad you like Christmas.

I think the first Home Alone counts as a Christmas movie. My kids just watched it last week. There are lots of places I avoid because of germs. I learned the hard way when the kids were small. IT seems like all winter long, when they were small, we'd go from one kid having something to the next, and on, and on... I really get mad at people who come out sick or bring their children to things when they're not well. In my day, you stayed home when you were sick. We still do. If one of the kids has something with a fever, they are sent to bed until I know they won't spread it to everyone else. I'm always the one exposed since I do the mom thing when they're sick, but it has cut down on the "passing it" thing in our family.

Have a good rest of the week!

Hi sweet Kessie! I'd love to have you join us for "A Childlike Christmas" next Wednesday (and all the Wednesdays until Christmas!) The vision is this: instead of getting caught up in the hustle and bustle and the KA-CHING of the cash register (or the click of the mouse!) we'll set aside time to think of how sweet and pure Christmas can be through the eyes of children.
I see you have three little love bugs! Our oldest is 30 (son with 3 kids and one on the way!) and our first daughter is 28 (three sweet little girl angels) and our youngest daughter has one little two-year old wonder child! Our other son is the greatest uncle in the world. He's not married yet! So anyway, I'm a teacher and a granny and a wife and a mama (just like your dear mother!) I'll put you on the blog roll and look forward to your post on Wednesday the 7th of December, okay? I'm so happy that you want to play along. I adore each one of my friends who are participating and I'm sure I adore YOU, too! It's snowing like CRAZY here in Denver and I am making apple crisp.
